HEAD STANDARD
Shape
Modified wedge, with very full cheeks.
Seen from the front, the wedge is outlined by a narrowing series of three distinct convex curves:
- Outer edge of the ear lobes
- Cheekbones
- Whisker pads
Forehead curves from the stop back to a flat skull.
Relatively small head.
Profile
Strongly marked stop.
Muzzle
Short, well developed, with a pronounced break and prominent whisker pads.
Chin
Strong, well developed.
Ears
Large, set low, broad at the base, tapering to rounded tips.
Well covered with fine hair, with sparse furnishings, with or without "ear muffs" and tufts.
Sparse hair at the temples is not considered a fault.
Eyes
Large, set well apart.
Oval in shape, slanting toward the outer edge of the ear.
Any color is accepted, usually conforming to the coat.
Neck
Medium-long and slender.
BODY STANDARD
Musculature
Hard and muscular.
Torso
Slender, medium length, but with a broad chest.
Carried high on the legs.
Tail
Long, tapering, medium-fine boning, well covered with short hair.
Legs
Long, medium-fine boning, with the hind legs noticeably longer.
Feet
Small and oval.
COAT / COLOR
Texture
Fine, dense and wavy.
"Rexed" appearance, seemingly without guard hairs.
Length
Short on the back, flanks, upper legs and tail.
Very short on the head, ears, neck, paws, chest and abdomen.
Kittens may have very short hair all over the body; even without waves, the coat should be even, with no hairless areas.
Density
The cat should be well covered with hair, densest on the back, flanks, tail, legs, face and ears.
Slightly lower density is allowed on the top of the head, neck, chest and abdomen.
Hairless areas are a fault in kittens and a serious fault in adults.
The presence of down on the underside of the body should not be taken as baldness.
Sparse hair at the temples is not a fault.
Waviness
A rippled effect should be noticeable when the coat is smoothed with the hand.
The waves are most evident where the hair is longest, on the body and tail.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Devon is a breed with a unique appearance.
Its large eyes, short muzzle, prominent cheekbones and huge, low-set ears create a characteristic "pixie" look.
It is a medium-sized cat, well covered with a short, full, wavy coat of distinctive texture, the result of a mutation found only in this breed.
It may have down on the underparts of the body, which is not a fault.
Less coat development may be tolerated in kittens of excellent type, in preference to individuals of inferior type but with a full coat.
Males may be up to 25% larger than females without this being a fault, as long as they keep proper proportion.
It is alert, active and shows a lively interest in its surroundings.
