BAMBINO BREED
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE BREED
Bambinos are the result of an intentional cross between long-boned, short-legged dwarf cats, including the Munchkin, and cats with an extremely short coat or no hair, including the Sphynx.
The goal of this cross is to produce a small cat, hairless or with a minimal coat, with an athletic appearance and a gentle, lively, outgoing and affectionate personality.
Bambinos are intelligent, friendly and agile cats, since their size does not limit their movement. They respond well to handling and are very interactive and sociable.
HEAD STANDARD
The ideal Bambino has a two-plane, wedge-shaped head that is longer than it is wide.
- The first plane starts behind the head.
- The second plane starts slightly in front of the ears.
The ear line should be aligned with the corner of the eye and set well on top of the head.
The ears should not open out to the sides but continue the facial line, adding height to the head, finished with lynx tipping.
Eyes
- Large
- Almond-shaped
- Slightly slanted
- Set well apart
Muzzle
Short, giving a square appearance when viewed from above.
Nose
Should not be Roman.
It should be straight, with a gentle stop.
Chin
Firm, in a straight line with the nose.
BODY STANDARD
The Bambino's body should give an overall impression of strength and muscle, being neither thin nor fragile.
- Well muscled
- Medium boning
- Overall sturdy and very muscular appearance
Back
Level; a slight rise in the hindquarters is allowed, although not desirable.
Legs
Short and well developed.
Feet
Medium size, with well-defined toes and prominent joints.
Tail
Long, thin, whip-like and flexible.
Tapering to the tip, with a "lion tail" tuft.
The tail should be graceful and slender, reinforcing the Bambino's athletic appearance.
SKIN AND COAT
Skin texture is extremely important in the Bambino breed.
Texture
It should feel like warm, soft suede, extremely smooth to the touch.
Coat
It may range from:
- Completely hairless
- To a light down
Texture is more important than the amount of hair.
Color and Pattern
The Bambino may come in all colors and patterns.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION (IDEAL)
The ideal Bambino is a small, athletic, muscular, graceful and balanced cat with an excellent body structure.
It has an affectionate, sociable, active and interactive personality and adapts extremely well to living with people.
Its appearance combines strength, elegance and agility, despite its small stature.
BREEDING AND LEG-LENGTH VARIATION
Bambino litters produce kittens with:
- Short legs
- Long legs
The only difference between the short-legged and long-legged littermates is the length of the legs.
Long-legged Bambinos are essential to the breeding program, as they meet the standard in every other respect except leg length.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Agility is not impaired by size.
- Social interaction is a striking trait.
- Docility and attachment to people are highly desirable.
- Skin texture is a priority evaluation criterion.
